THE TYPE OF ART WE WANT IS…

• • Indigenous-centered, pro-earth, pro-working class

• • De-colonial and free of the shackles of the white lens
    • • Decentering whiteness in writing and storytelling involves a conscious shift in perspective and approach, challenging the dominance of settler voices and experiences in narrative

• • Multimedia: From memoir to fiction, poetry, essay, music, spoken word, blogs, plays, non-fiction with the intention of eventually expanding into video, film, art, cartoons/animation, comics, graphic novels, and children’s books

• • Fresh sounds that pop, that it vibes and culturally gets down to our hip-hop, corrido, oldies, banda, cumbia, punk, rancheras, rhythm & blues, dembow, reggaeton styles

• • Unapologetically political and radical art. It should be a call to action: it agitates, declares, provokes

• • Inspiring and oozes with radical imagination: Is world-building, futurist, births bold visions, original/fresh concepts, shatters (literal and nonliteral) borders and formulas, yes to experimental works that blur the lines of language, genres or mediums

• • Non-oppressive, ‘contemporizes’ and speaks to our current material conditions, protests the status quo, challenges dominant discourse through various means, and indicts the systems–including racism, sexism, capitalism & empire

• • Part of a collective ‘we’ and can serve as a tool for liberation movements.
